Why do I have restart my map to get the sound files to work?
I have a script_model with a fx/dummy.tik files but I never hear the sounds upon initial loadup. I get a bunch of precache errors in the console, even though I already have a _precache file.
This isn't just localized to my maps either ...

.DCL files and pk3 fun - can't find image for the shader
Compile my map and archive appropriate files into a pk3.
Drop the pk3 in /mainta, run the map and everything is fine.
pushmenu decals, restart the map and the decals are there. Cool. Save and exit (new dcl file is written to mainta/maps/dm)
Updated my pk3 with the new .DCL file.
Now the map ...
