Mohradiant crashed when I use csg subtract

Post by erick »

When I have lod terrain on my map radiant crashes when I try to csg subtract something. My terrian is for a forest scenery but I need csg to take out parts of a wall that is at the end of the forest near a town. Radiant crashes when I tried to. Spearhead is not installed. I have plain old radiant.

Good to know some things never change!

You'll probably have to chop your wall up the hard way, using the "Clipper" tool. It's much more stable, and really in the end you can do a lot more with it anyway. CSG subtract is never stable, and once you get into complicated shapes with a lot of faces it will crash every time.

Catch the terrain with CSG subtract and it is a quarrentied crash . Even if you don't chances are you will make a mess with little portal type errors and such . CSG subtract is the devils tool . It sucks you in with prommises of great looking maps then smacks you down with crashes and lost work . Ask at the alter of the church of PKM for devine guidence you sinner :) .

Copy your wall to a new map and csg cut it there. Then you can use copy to put it back in your original map. You can also do it by using the filters to hide everything except worldspawn brushes.

Everyone hates csg, but if you learn how to live with its limitations, it can be a godsend!

I think I will take t|trude's suggestion Pkm. I was thinking of that but, I guess t|trude said it first. :D

<edit> by the way I tried the filters and it still crashes. It just waits a second before crashing instead of crashing immediately.
