Moving (shifting) Gate

Post by jorgebilas »

How do I create a gate, that when you press a button in a wall, the gate moves (shifts) to the right. Like in zutphen there are those gates that when you press a button they rise up.

You would have to add a trigger, but an easier way would be to put an angle on the gate door. For example , make the gate, no draw on one side, then the gate on the other side. then you would have to put the origin in, (hope you know how to do that) then have the origin and the door selected and put a function door. press the letter n to bring up the entiities and select the angle that you want. for example again 180 and the door will open to the side. or you could put the angle that would open straight above.

Actually you don't need the origin, just give it func_door and the direction.

Depends on what direction you want the door to open...if it's sliding up/down the angle is -1 if it's side to side the angle is not necessary. I have a small door that slides to the left when 'touched' and then has to be touched again to slide closed. NO origin needed for the right/left thing, just a 'function_door'.

IF you're using a trigger effect, there are lots of things you can do. The easiest is to give the door a '$targetname/name' and the trigger a 'target'/targetname. When the trigger is used it will open the door... effective for opening a door from a distance. You can do other stuff through scripting although that's more complicated. In those cases I've used this:

$door_trigger trigger $door

that will run inside a thread that could be in an OBJ or TOW map or not, but it will open a door from inside the script WITHOUT using the a 'target' entity value.
