Born today newbie, 1st map problem

Post by AFE7ret »

I'm using Mbuilder. I did the 'getting started' tut that comes with the SDK.
I go into Mbuilder and build map. It builds ok. Then it starts moh to play the new map. Even before the map loads all the way the screen starts twitching. Then I'm in the new map room and the bottom 2/3 of the screen is jumpin' all around. I can see my new room and it looks ok except the jumping.
Thanks,
Jeff

Info playerstart

Make sure your info player start is slightly above the ground. The gray area outside your room is called the void and it is very bad if your room (world) is not sealed up so it can't be seen. So, make a giant box around your room, hollow it out, and give the walls a sky texture--found in misc_outside.

Find a tutorial for skybox and it should fix it.

Try shutting/closing MOHRadiant before starting your level in MOHAA. On my computer, if I don't shut down Radiant, MOHAA jumps around like you were talking about. I think it has to do with the graphics card. Mine is a 3d Herculese GeForce2, I haven't tried new drivers to see if that fixes the problem. You should get the newest drivers available and see if that helps. Hope this was of some help.

I built the sky box around my room. Apparently, I now have a leaky room inside a leaky skybox. In 3d view I can move all around between the room and the skybox. They don't touch. When inside the skybox I can't see any gray void. I've inspected every place where surfaces meet. There are no gaps that I can see.
The screen jumping starts right after UI_Drawconnect is called (if that matters).
I'm ready to slap myself in the head any minute. First person to get me over this hump gets credit for 1 massive head slap. :)

Thanks,
Jeff

I closed Radient before testing the level and that limits the jumping to just when I'm in the game. Before it was jumping even after escaping from the level and while I was trying to quit MOHAA.
I put new textures on the floor and ceiling and it stopped jumping altogether. I think my skybox still leaks though.
1 massive head slap in the name of 'NathanielPT'. Here goes. PA-YOW!! Ou, good one.

Thanks, now on to the next bump in the road.

Glad I could help! It really stumped me until I solved it. I'll try to help with the next bump in the road as well.

Textures with black in them also let light through them, don't set boundary graphics to these brush textures
