Texture and Light question

Post by Innkeeper »

I have random white dots show up at the intersection of patches and an adjacent brush. The vertexes meet perfectly. Interesting that the one above the door does not fit properly, and yet it does not do this.

Also, light shadows are not properally rendering as in the next image. I am using bounce 0. Any other combination I have tried is much worse.

BTW, I am fashioning this after the image below:

That looks pretty good 8).

Maybe you can post a screenshot with r_showtris at 1 or 2. That might give some insight on the white dots problem.

I have noticed the problem also. Have come to the conclusion, since patch, Lod Terrain, cylinders are not very thick unit wise, that perhaps the game engine or graphics card has a hard time with these "thin" things.

This looks really pretty! Hope to find it soon in a map!
Try to make the fans rotate at different speeds, that would be nice!

About screen from inside:
Try to texture the faces of the adjacent brushes not with Caulk but another texture, so they wouldn't be invisible and won't 'let the sun shine in'. This might also be a rendering error of your video-card (antaliasing activated?), though it's nothing I haven't seen in my maps unfortunately.

About screen from outside: I've had this problem not only with endcaps but also with regular brushes - no idea what to do but change adjacent textures to not being the same which will cover this error.

Yes the fans all rotate at different speeds. Some are on a "slow" setting. 8) I don't think that I have ever been in an old builing with ceiling fans that were spinning at the same rate. This really gives some realism.

Grrrreat 8)

Just while I wrote that post, I compiled my second atempt of this gladiator-thing and I can show you now: A screen of it, which will make you laugh about your render-problems above your arch!

Aaargh... Do you see the darker face in the middle? Me too
NO idea why...

Intresting, that worked for the textures inside. Thanks for the hint. :D
