Compiler Warning

Post by Killerdude »

Can anyone tell me if I should be concerned with...... Warning: Leaf portals saw into leaf.
If so, where should I start to look?

Hmmm not a regular problem, any brush you have created have too many sides, weird angles? The error suggests its a portal problem but I think its a problem with too complex geometry for the vis process to compile (hence my sugestion of complex brush(s))
Are you using vis leafs? If you are not my initial feeling is that its to do with complex (in other words bad over complex brushes).
If you have complex brushes delete and save as another name, recompile and see if the errror persists.
If you are using visleafs then clarify and when I sober up I will try to answer
Let us know how you get on, good luck.

Now sober

I didn't add any visleafs. I do have LOD terrain with verticies tweaked and I do a bunch of clipping on regular brushes to get different shapes.

~ is there a setting on the vis process that I can tweak to handle strange angles?

~ If I don't see any problems can I ignore the warning? The sticky on compiler warnings kind of implied its not a big deal. (unless I read it wrong)

been a while since I mapped. What do you mean by clipping ? Do you use the e and v keys............. click and drag the dots... ?

Well you could make the brushes detail and therefore the vis process will ignore them.

You could ignore them if the map still runs but its advisable to minimise these problems before they get out of hand.

In continuation to imagination...

To make a brush detail, select the brush(es) you want to make detail then right click (DO NOT RIGHT CLICK ON A TEXTURE) and go to "make detail"

I clicked on a texture once with a whole MP map selected - retextured the entire thing to sky... Very bad.
