The Official Wishlist Thread

Because every project needs one. :)

Please don't ask about:
  • built-in VOIP (we'll have Mumble integration)
  • pak downloading
  • improved moddability (fs_game support, more scripting commands, file access for scripts etc.)
  • server administration tools
  • IPv6 support
...because they'll all be included. :)
And don't ask about these either:
  • drivable vehicles
  • physics engine
  • new maps, models, skins, sounds etc.
  • fixing bugs and glitches (see the relevant FAQ entry)
  • GUIDs
  • global accounts/ranking systems
  • gameplay changes
...because they're just not happening (out of the project's scope/irrelevant/impossible/I don't feel like doing that/etc.).

The list above may be updated as more misinformation is spread.

Post your suggestions for the project below. :)

Well, can I suggest things far away from being planned now? I think it'll be somewhat nonsense

Nothing GUID-related or global is happening. Remember, this is open source, changing your software to return anything instead of a GUID is trivial.

UIE is irrelevant because it's for Quake III.

Why would anyone want to limit the number of connections from a given IP? There are people behind NATs out there, and there are more effective methods of combatting fake player DoS attacks.

As for the enhanced admin features, it's all understood. :)

I don't quite understand these:

What do you exactly mean? Brute force protection, you mean protection
against brute force password cracking attacks?

By putting UIE I was suggesting kind of UIE, not Quake UIE strictly.

The skills of a player increase/decrease upon frags/deaths, e.g. if you kill someone with low skill you'll earn 1 kill, but killing someone with high skill would give you more than 1 frag PER kill.
Here are more examples (in Enemy Territory there's also a xp system for ranks):
http://manbeck.se/statsgen/info.html
Skill = (Kills With Weapon * Weapon Skill Weight) + (Kills in Location * Location Skill Weight) - (Deaths With Weapon * Weapon Skill Weight) - (Deaths InLocation * Location Skill Weight)
Would be good if we could change the values for Weapon Skill, Death, Kill, Suicide...
Lol, internal time handler is something I was thinking, maybe some kind of crontab to server :P , I guess it was not a good idea to put it there.

But if the admin things are understood I'm more than pleased.

PS: Yes (Brute Force Protection), someway to limit the login tries and temp ban in the worst cases. Most admins've set their rconpassword to a 3-4 length word, password guessing is really easy then, even more just with lowecase characters.
PS2: The Cracking Protection would be done only with protocol encryption I guess, the password is sent in plain-text, so there's no point in encrypt the password on server. Also, the rcon is UDP, so encryption would be harder. But the end will surely be a "rcon" not compatible (when using encryption) with the actual clients.

How bout something like in CounterStrike that after you get killed it tells you stats like how much damage you've done to someone. Does that qualify as a wish?

That would be great, but I guess it would be good making the modifications to gameplay toggleable. Most players won't recompile their servers
We also could make that when you got killed you get a sight of who killed you.

PS: the Don't Ask About is growing  both, but I prefer the first
PS?: LUA support for scripting and file handling, such as writing/reading things from files would be a Don't Ask About too?

I would like to see multiplayer AI available. Like smart bots and such. Not sure if it will or won't be included.

UDP is better than no protection, but it's VERY crappy & easy to crack. Hense why DMW was bypassed so many times by hackers.

I would also like to see perhaps a addon that would allow clients to accumulate $ for kills and have the opportunity to buy more\better guns. I know it's like counterstrike, and if you ask me to go play that game, my reply is simply, it's not the same "feel" I like MOHAA cause it's slower paced. Atleast for me. One game I like is STALKER for their point accumulation and their upgrades and such.

You also can do it using a rank system, kills based. I think it's more realist, as you can't actually steal money from the corpses.
It's true, that in war some soldiers won gratifications, but I don't know.
That reminds me a game called Soldier Of Fortune 2, but there was no rank system

Gameplay changes are out of the question (no ironsights, scoring system changes, etc). You can do that in a mod, we're only reproducing original MoHAA.

No need for LUA, MoHAA's scripting language is pretty robust and its capabilities will be enhanced by file access, among other things. :)

What about adding more compressors, I like zlib, but also 7zip is open source (TOO) and way more efficient than zlib.

It's not absolute but in some cases...

I think he's referring to replacing .pk3 extensions for better compression.
