FPS high on open map

Post by ozmium »

I did a MOH:AA version of Wet Works from COD4. For those of you who are familiar with Wet Works know that it is a very open map. Only a couple hallways which have windows.

How can I decrease the FPS on this map. I read the tuts on areaportals and vis_leafgroups but from what I could understand from those tuts, is that when you cant see something, it doesnt draw it. The problem in my map is that you can see the entire map from certain points (when you are up high). I don't want areas to not be visible or to just pop out of nowhere as I am trying to get it as close to the COD4 map as possible.

I have turned every brush that isnt a wall, ceiling or floor into detail brushes, and even tried at one point to make EVERY brush a detail in hopes it might help. I have caulked everything and only textured the visible sides. When I did a final compile, i had BSP and VIS with nothing selected and Lighting was on Final.

Well, any help would be appreciated.

I would normally post a couple of links to online medical care, but I need to know why you would want to DECREASE the frame rates ? Sounds nuts! Maximizing frame rates is always a priority to me and most other mappers.

I think it is impossible to build a COD4 map for a Q3-based game with the same dimensions. Have you tried using fog?

Hey, I'm having a similar problem. There's a part in my map where if you run through it, the framerate will just drop. Should I delete some models?

Should I consider using vis_leafgroups? But then I'd have to compile VIS and that takes ages.

Hmm..? Are you saying that I should be patient haha? Maybe I guess I could leave the computer on overnight if it starts to take FOREVER to compile.
