Transparent Textures & Lighting

Post by Smithy »

I know it isn't a big deal, but I've noticed that my transparent textures don't allow light to pass through, even though on the stock maps there are numerous occasions when light is shown passing through grates etc.

I have a ceiling grate on my map, with a light directly below it, and it is at 200 intensity. I don't want to put a light on the other side of it because it doesn't look right.

Any ideas?

Oh and I've tried the grates using no-draw and without no-draw and it still comes out the same. I know I can use patch mesh, but I've decompiled stock maps and their grates are brushes.

I believe your grate texture needs surfaceparm trans for this to work. Put common/nodraw on all other sides.

Search the forums for alphashadow, I recall Mj making a very informative post about it and what can be done with it. Basically it enables per-pixel shadowing for transparent textures.
