Problem With Volumedamage

Post by Shifty »

Im trying to use Volumedamage to Hurt a player from Fire But when I walk into the trigger i die instantly and the message says "shifty blew up"

Heres what I've used:

Code: Select all

	key: targetname
	value: mfire

	key: setthread
	value: moven

key: wait (sets the amount of seconds between triggerings)
	value: 1

And in the Script

	moven:
	$mfire volumedamage 100
	end
I used the wait of 1 and damage of 100 from the tutorial
Note : While testing with a value of a 100 and using a wait-key of 1 second, I lost 13 healthpoints per hit (or triggering) and died in ~8 seconds.
I died instantly Any ideas?

Your volumedamage is 100! That's why you die instantly. Use a smaller number. 10?

hmm, you did add the wait-key to the trigger and not the script, right?

When you look at the 'mission stats'-screen after you die, how many hits have you taken? If the stats say '8 hits', then something's gone wrong with the wait key.
If everything's set up right the hurting (red flickering) should occur every one second and not continuously.

I agree. Use the wait key. Don't mess too much with the number 100. Maybe down a bit. Algebra. Check Surgeon's tutorial on this subject, he has a percise explanation for what you are encountering.

Ok I figured it out

Volumedame is the hit you take
wait is the time between hits

So as i put wait 1 and volumedamage 100 i insantly died after altering volumedmage to 10 in the script i was hit for 10 damage with a 1 second intervall

I think ill change the volumedamage to 25 now though as that should suffice

Just 1 More Problem though when I die I get xxx Blew up as my message is it possible to change this to xxx Was Burned to Death - I know ppl arnt gonna be saft enough to stand in the fire but its just a little thing i'd like to change if possible

as far as I know the death messages are in "global/localization.txt". But if a server runs this localization.txt and your .pk3 has a different one, then that might cause problems. I'm afraid this stuff is serverside.
