Frustrating: Uneven Light Across Multiple Brushes!

Post by HandyTech »

I simply don't know what to do about this. Take a look at this picture, which will tell the whole story . . .

That's the effect of a T-junction. You fix it by mitering the window corner.

Turn this:

Code: Select all

----------------
| |
| |
| |----------
| |
| |
| |
into this:

Code: Select all

----------------
|\
| \
| \ ----------
| |
| |
| |

I'm sorry, you'll have to say that in English, I don't speak .map very well :D. Are you saying I have to make a cut somewhere else? Where? There's 2 pieces there, would "mitering" it make it three?

No you still need only two brushes, basically you turn both into a trapezoid.

Either I miunderstood or the light entity doesn't support this type of thing. Here's two images, the first is the front a "T" created with 2 shapes like I think you said to create it, the second behind the "T" which is perfectly natural and how I want the front to look even with light on it.

Take a look how you can see the shadow or the outline of the two pieces.

I should use the clipper, right? That's what I was using. I've included the map file in case you want to see upfront the issue. I have real lighting enabled (fyi).

Hmm curious. You did it right, I thought that would fix the problem. Afraid we'll need someone more experienced with mapping to answer this one

 May want to do a search. I'm sure this question has been asked before. When I wasn't paying attention obviously. ;)

It's seems like when you move the light higher the effect does go away, almost like lighting is supposed to be used only higher up (or so it would seem).

Are you only using light entities or are you using a combination of light entities and ambient light ?

If you use a small amount of ambient light and when you use the light entities themselves...... and lower the intensity, some of that might disappear.

Seems to me you are trying to light the map with light entities only.

Forgot....... try angling the light a little.
