Lighting showing in step

ok well i have a step, whitch has writing on it, with in real life (not game) a tube behind what lights up the writing, how can i get the same affect in medal of honor ?

ok ill get takeing pictures, and ill do a picture of real step and how it lights up ,

just thinking would a long corona reg work ?

I'd rather go for a multi-stage light-emitting shader. I'd have the non-glowing part of the step in one stage, the glow in another, and have the glow stage use identity lighting (i.e. always fullbright regardless of the light conditions) and emit light (can't remember exactly how to do it, there are some windows in the Algiers texture set that have this property). Google up "Quake 3 shader bible", it explains everything about shaders.
