IMHO a good admin will need just the rcon and nothing else. If you're desperate for ideas, you might want to copy some of MOHAA CI or DMW server functionality.

I have made an rcon tool, but all the 'new' functions are just to control my mods.

one good thing i think would be needed...and dont know if this is possible but a translator built in....like alot of overseas people come in our server and i dont speak french or spanish so i cant converse with them...maybe something where u can type in english then select which language u want it to post in...that would be AWESOME!!!!! i think...and i also think it would help out alot more admins who have the same issues with the language barrier

i wouldnt even know where to begin to build a program but i can get the translator if thats what u meant....i can try to look at babelfish and see what kind of usage it has and see if it would be possible to put into a prog but then again it would make it so large lol....it could happen lol

or maybe just a few prefabbed sayings in all languages that admins mostly use....stuff like no spawnkilling or no this and no that

that would be alot easier=)

Not possible through scripting or external programs. Hard-coded.

What do you mean, not possible? You can very well build a program with an integrated HTTP client that queries Google Translator or something for the translation before issuing the rcon say command.

I can't imagine anyone spending countless hours realizing this, but you obviously know more about this than me. I don't see how you could 'track' what a user has typed before actually entering it. But I guess it must be saved somewhere.

I'm a very progressive person, but I'm quite conservative on this matter. If you want to communicate through other languages, then don't be a lazy arse but learn the language. I don't envy the French, the English or the Americans since they don't learn any other language, seriously and thuroughly enough like us Belgians do. We need to learn 4 languages.

Text translators have no respect for any language. I would never rape a language by translating it to my own or vice versa. When did you ever successfully translated an English sentence into any other language and determined that your translated sentence is grammically correct? Let alone the vocabulary. Many words have different nuances in other languages. It may to grammatically correct but what you're saying might be complete gibberish.

Translators are fine for individual words, anything more results into a slaughter of speech.

But, that's only my opinion.

Haha, sure, you made a lot of good points there. :) I basically share your views, but as long as these translators are used as a last resort only, I'm fine with them.

Personally, I like the Google translator a lot, it's definitely the best one out there and it's already made life easier for me a few times. For example, I had to read something on a French website a while ago. I did study French for 2 years, but the teacher was pretty bad and I never got it to a communicative level. I would be missing some very valuable information from that website hadn't Google translated it for me to English (my native language is Polish).

How could such a thing work? You have a field to type a message in and next to it a combo box to choose the language to translate to. Click "send" and before the text is "rcon say"d, the program retrieves a translation. As simple as that.

well it would be client side, not aviable for those who don't have it..bit still looks good!
I totally share your opinion SOR about that, but as Rookie said, sometimes, if you don't know how to say something, the voucabulary really really halp ya.
Aso consider that a lot of peopple who play multiplayer don't know english..and that's bad....TRY TO TELL SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO A PLAYER WHO CANNOT SPEAK ANY OTHER LENG lol! sometimes it happends!
