Snow problem. Help! Bring me a shovel!

Post by Voxel »

I have the rain brushes setup so it shouldn't rain/snow inside buildings, but it still does. it falls to "0" where the lowest point of any of the rain brushes is located. I'm sure many people run into this. Solution anyone?

Also how come it only starts snowing in the brush i'm standing in? And it stops when i move to a different area. Do i have to trigger it all together somehow? if so, how? triggers on top of spawns? what kind of keys and values?

Thanks in advance!

To answer your first question; make sure you leave a gap in between the buildings and the rain brush, otherwise it will appear inside buildings.

For your second question; did you group all the brushes togeather as a single entity ?

I thought spacing might have something to do with it. I added spaces but haven't tested it yet. we'll see, but it didn't seem like that was the problem cause snow didn't go any lower then 0. we shall see. thanks.

and yes. the're all part of 1 entity. i tried them separately and didn't seem to make a difference.

... tested with plenty of space between the buildings & roofs. makes no difference. it still all falls down to "ground 0" even from brushes 512 units above the ground :(

I believe Innkeeper is doing a snow-tutorial. Maybe he can shed some light, or snow.;)

OK, Snow/Rain... when creating either, you can approach it in a couple of ways.... One is to create many brushes at angles (randomly angled near each other).. not placing them in building entities or create large brushes to fill the gaps between buildings etc... if you place a weather effect brush inside a building it will snow/rain within the bounds of the weather effect brush.... so place carefully. You don't need to trigger from one brush to another.

If you saw the flash from my gun.. I probably missed!!! But then I seldom do....

I have found that snow is especially temperamental. Make brushes just as you would for rain except that a bit more clearance is needed to the side and above structures. Changing the rain variables may help a bit especially level.rain_min_dist.

MOHAA and Spearhead do NOT process the rain function the same. Spearhead is a bit more stable but still has problems.
