JvBot improvement feedback

Post by Bjarne BZR »

I've set the Bot skill to 4 ( max right? ), and they still are sheps to the slaughter... OK, I'm fairly good at MOH:AA  but they have weaknesses that are too easy to exploit.

1) If a bot i merrily running along and you fire at it from behind: it just runs along un-bothered. A better behaviour would be to Jump sideways and spin around to try to locate the attacker... if no enemy is found: the bot should turn around and retrace its steps for a short period of time ( maby the last pathnode ). And then return to its first path...

2) They generally react too slow. An experienced player will have no problem downing 3-4 bots with the standard headshot short-burst before they fire back ( ok maby not 3-4 but 2-3 )...

3) Short attension span. Any experienced player will use the "lean-strafe out and back" -pattern when assaulting an enemy from a concealed position... The bots seem helpless against this... They should enter a state of aimed paranoia... aimed at the last position the enemy were seen... and in this paranoid state the bot should be VERY trigger happy and react very fast... this state should only last for a few seconds and reduce the bots focus on other threats...

Thats all my feedback for now!

A question: Can I script the bots reactions in more detail than just setting jvbot_skill ( Reaction speed, running speed and so on ) ?

NO don't worry - it's constructive feedback and I like it a lot.

Bjarne has already given me loads of good comments so I'm open for any suggestions from him. Well from anyone ;).

Well jv ,I played your OP Centre with bots.It was alot of fun.The map its self was excellent. The bots behaved well,I mean after all they are bots. You can not exspect them to act like real people.

My only complaint would be the AI's talking, maybe a bit to often. If I here "Powell ,you've got point" one more time I will go postal,LOL.

Any way Great Job jv

Ahhh, speaking of talking ( )... the fact that the enemy screams "feindtlische schpezialeinheit!" before actually firing at U is really cool but combined with their slow aim it helps U to kill them :D
Dont get me wrong here: I love the way they talk! It's their reaction that I already mentioned above that is at fault...

Keep up the good work, evil dalek lord!
/Bjarne
PS: Why does no bots have robot names? Like "Iron Giant", "T1000", "Deathmachine", "AIMEE" and "Dalek" :D ( Hmm... never mind... it gets a bit unpersonal with those names... the ones you use is better... )

Talking & TK

Post by Rookie One.pl »

Hey, I think that they shouldn't talk that much because you can locate them... And in POD Bot (Counter-Strike bot) when you shoot bots from your own team, they turn to you and shoot you too  I know it's hard to do, but it would be more real if they will repay you :)

About killing team BOTs... making the robots turn on their "creators" is a classical movie script, but it would really not help gameplay. It would create an un-wanted "eye for an eye" mentality that usually destroys the fun in any online session. Something that WOULD be a good idea, is to not spawn a medikit when you kill your own BOTs. Thus removing the only real reson to kill your own bots. If you still kill a friendly bot, you are either:
A: Unlucky ( Happens to anyone ).
or
B: Stupid ( More common than one would think ).
or
C: Curious ( Never seen a BOT before, and just HAD to try it ).

/Bjarne
PS: Maby they don't spawn medikits... never really checked if they do...

Oh, and Yarik:

I'm never mean. I'm the nicest guy ever to roam the earth!

1. I DO wait for an update.
2. I DO make my own scripts to work with this.
3. I will not tell jv_map I'm sorry, because I'm not... I'm happy. Happy that a brilliant mind has put these brilliant bots together. And I have not been neglecting to tell him this on numerous occasions.

I just want to give the usefull feedback I would want if I did someting like this. jv_map is ( I think ) not helped by a lot of guys saying: "Great BOTs man!!!" unless they are really perfect.
It is more helpful to say WHAT you liked about them. And if you liked them, but found someting that is not perfect: Point that out and give an example of a simple remedy for the problem.

Correction: Of course jv_map is helped by a lot of guys saying: "Great BOTs man!!!"... just as long as that is not the only thing they say.

:? Huh? lol

I don't think you understand what I said :D If you kill too many of your own team, say 5, your own team attack you till you die. This has nothing ot do with the other team :D

hey, not sure how possible it would b, but u would need 2 script in a "3rd Team", so that after killing so many 'friendlies' (seems strange calling them that after you shooting them, then them returning the compliment) you would join the 3rd team on your own so every1 will attack ya.

i've thought about doing a similar thing where you could add dogs that would attack both teams. if you can get that far the rest should be easy, well easier anyway :D
hope this helps, prob not cos it's all foreign 2 me :-/
