Balconies and clipping

Post by Shadow Knight »

What invisible texture can I use to block players from falling off
balconies? My map is slowly but surely coming along. I am
having to fix a few problematic issues. Also, can I use the
clipping texture to keep leaves from going into my buildings?

Clip will make the players not fall off or jump under ground (USE THAT FOR ANYWHERE HTEY MIGHT GET UNDER ...LOLOL)
to stop leaves you need small kids with a brush set they think is a toy :)

utility

Post by tltrude »

In the long white text box at the top of the editor type, "utility" and all the different clip brush textures will show up in your texture window.

A plain clip brush will keep players out, but bullets will still pass through it, so I guess leaves will too. I have no idea what all the clip textures do, but I wish I did!!! I think some of them just make different sounds when a player walks on or shoots them.

The clip brushes basically create an invisible barrier with the appropriate sound attached.

'Clip' (yellow) will allow any bullet/projectile to pass through but NOT the player or AI. You can put just a skinny bar 32 units above a balcony rail to hold a player in or use a whole wall as high or wide or whatever.

'Metal Clip' (bright green) is really useful for clipping/solid-ing a tank or truck body etc. It stops EVERYTHING from passin through it and makes a metallic sound when shot.

'Wood Clip' (brown) is great for lining an Opel truck bed bottom, sides, and front. Makes a wood sound when shot and NOTHING passes through it.

'Foliage Clip' (dark green) ....OK, never used it much but it does NOT clip extending foliage from going inside a building. Figure that it applies a foliage sound to a texture and doesn't appear to stop anything from passing through it.

Other 'Clip' textures pretty much do as the name says. 'Mud' = Mud sound and solid, 'Snow' = Snow sound and solid etc...

Hope it helps illuminate a little.

Even if there were a clip brush that stops foliage from intruding on buildings it wouldn't work with the trees and bushes in MOHAA because the bounding box for these models is the size of the trunk.
