Whats wrong with my computer ?

Post by Jack Ruby »

I have an Athlon XP 1800, 256 DDR Ram, 64MB ATI RADEON VE Graphics Card, my friend has a Pentium 4 1400, 256 Rd Ram, 32MB GEFORCE2 Graphics.
I have messed with every setting in the game, I got the lastest drivers for my card.
For comparison we were both running the game at 1024x768, pretty much most of the settings high and a few medium.
My machine struggles to get over maybe 12 fps on most maps, I go to my friends he is hitting 70-90 fps on a supposedley inferior machine, is it my graphics card ? Do I need more Ram ?
This prob is causing me great distress :(

Any ideas ?

What is your mobo specs and what level of DDR Ram are you using? Maybe it is something else that is slowing your computer down outside of MOHAA?

Well, I just checked for you on fps and playing the Omaha Objective map, I was running somewhere around 40-50 fps. That was with about 15 people playing and lots of idiots using rockets. These are my 'puter spcecs:

Mobo - Abit KX7-333R
CPU - AMD 1800+ XP 1.53 mhz
Video Card - GeForce 4 MX420 64MB DDR
RAM - 256MB PC-2700 DDR333 Samsung

So, basically we have the same system. Different manufacturers on the video card but very similar card. My Mobo has the VIA KT333 chipset which is a step up from the 266 (and the fastest chipset at the time when I bought it) which increases the speed of the system and memory buses from 100 mhz to 166 mhz which gives it more speed. We need more power captain! They now have the VIA 400 chipset which is top of the line as far as I know for the AMD board. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. This will determine your system speed along with the speed of your RAM. I bought the PC-2700 instead of the PC-1600 or PC-2100 'cuz I wanted, you guessed it, more power. All this is changed now of course 'cuz they have faster, PC-3200 I think. How does this help you? Well my friend, all this adds up and if you can compare with the specs I gave you, maybe it will tell you why the FPS are lower. It seems like it should be higher though. I have most of the settings set at the highest levels and almost all the things selected that can be selected in the game. That being said, maybe there is something using your system memory up while playing MOHAA. I can't really tell from what you have told me so far what would be causing your play to be slower. Maybe do some more investigating outside of the game in your system settings and check what is using system resources to find the problem. You should be running higher though. Oh, my resolution in the game is the same as yours, 1024 x 768. This is probably too much information and your problem may not have anything to do with MOHAA. Hope it helps in some way.
