Textures

Post by ThorazineDruid »

This has been driving me absolutely batty for about an hour now. Every time I right click to move my camera (I'm in mode 2) the currently selected faces texture to whatever I end up clicking on (usually caulk). Also the texture menu switches to some set of textures I've never used before including the air france poster. Is there anyway to turn that right clicking thing off? Also, my texture menu is always stuck in the lower right hand corner, I'd like to make it float, how do I do that?

To use the 3d view you can just use the up down and side keys along with s,d,x,c for camera pitch and moving up and down.

Hopefully it helps :)

Grrrrr, now certain brushes won't texture at all. I think I'll leave all that business for later.

More stuff, I'm looking into making solid objects with 5 flat sides and one curved side, i.e. a slowly sloping bridge, I tried putting an end cap on a block but the end cap is hollow and I need to texture it (when I fianlly get that sorted out). Any ideas on that?

You see , there's some sort of the "eye" above the 3d view. Click on the eye 3 times until you see a "2" on the eye. Then in the 3d view, hold and drag your mouse forward or backward to move in the 3d view, which is easier to control rather than the keyboard. Move to your perfect spot, select the brush (shift+click) and texture it.
Live to map, not map to live.

The problem is I am in that mode, and when ever I right click to move it changes the selected brush's texture to what ever I click on. That I can live with, I'll just unselect before moving. The problem now is that I can't see any of my textures unless they are on arches. So I can't tell what has been textured and what hasn't.

By the way, I do have "show non-shader images" checked in preferences still nothing. How does anyone get anywhere in this program? Had I not had so many problems getting it to do what it is supposed to do the simple map I'm trying to learn on would have taken me an hour, instead I'm pushing two days for a single room.

...in the preferences, have you set your mouse to "3 button"? I tested this and changed my settings to "2 button" mouse. And just like you said it changes the textures on the selected brush(es) to one of the textures that I rightclick in the 3d view. With the "3 button" mouse setting this only happens when you use the middle mouse button.

To only see the textures you used in your map press "U" (Show in use). I don't know if you can make the texture menu float, but you might wanna select a different View/rendering layout in your Preferences.

Also you might need to change the texture rendering quality in either the edit -> preferences or somewhere in the view or texture menu.
