NIGHT SKY

Post by Mirek »

Hi All,

I have been trying to get a dark night sky for my map with no success.

The kind of sky I am talking about can be found in the ' Snowy Park ' DM map ( everyones favourite :D ) and a few SP missions, where the sky is black ( not visible) and the farplane settings work nicelly without the sky map showing up and ruinning the effect of distance.

I have tried every sky texture, even replaced the sky textures with black and used ambience settings but that was not a good result.

This one has got me good - Any Ideas ???

thanks in advance
Mirek

I have -
everything goes Black except the sky, suncolor does not seem to effect the sky map which is the core of my problem.
I've settles on suncolor 30 30 30 for my map which gives me the right amount of illumination but the sky goes on its own and cut through any farplane settings I set.

If you set the sky to a single color, and apply the same color to your farplane, I think it should look fine.

First try using the night textures.

drop the sun below the horizon
in the sundirection
use ambientlight
and ambient

in worldspawn

i used the bocage_night or something like that for a night sky texture. you have to chose 'show non-shader types' in the preferences for it to work tho. Thats the one from the pilot mission. I think theres some textures like all_white and all_grey too. maybe theres one for all_black. Theres also a texture called starfield, which is just stars.

Thanks all,

I think the single color texture is propably the way to go, just need one to match the color I want.

I'll try the no shader setup too.

Cheers

I did one that I couldnt get the sky as dark as I wanted so what I done was put an extra brush the size of the sky and sides of the sky box to the ground in front of them I used one of the leaf textures and then used 15 15 15
the ground was dark and the sky looked like it was full of stars
it's called GreatWall you can see it here,

but evenyone complianed about it being so dark I lightened it up
but I left the added texture on the sides so you can still see what I mean
