i'm not sure of how to use .bak, but in the folder where ur corrupted map file is there should be a folder called screenshots (if u have autosave on)

-open screenshots
-find the name of ur map in the folder
-rename the map with the highest number at the end
EX: mapxxx.map.99 becomes mapxxx.map

-then open up mohrad and load the map from ur screenshots folder :D

.bak is a .map file
the .bak stand for backup
all you do is rename the .bak to a .map

luckily for me my map was cluttered with entities so i can just rebuild around those... they are like an outline of my old map... :D so now i can i actualy caulk all of the brushes.. instead of just some... and i have some screenshots of the map when i compiled it for testing... so i can use those too :)
