What is the filesize of the .map file?

You can make a backup by just copying the file every once in a while and copy it to a personal folder or something. If you have loads of diskspace you may also want to try snapshots in edit -> preferences.

Finally there could be a .bak file. Maybe you can open that with Radiant.

when the console said that there are no world spawns it means that anything that wasnt a function, model, or entitie of some sort will not be there. i had this happen to me just last week.. it wasnt that big of a map and luckily the entities were still there so i could just rebuild the map around those... and how come radiant doesnt take snapshots if autosave isnt on :x because i tend to just experient and if i screw up and it auto saves while im just messin around then im screwed cuz it over rights my old map with this jacked up new one :x :x :x

yes radiant can open a bak file... just go into radiant go to the folder where the .bak file is and type 'yourmapname.bak' because you wont see it in the folder so you just type it in and it loads then go to save as and save it as a .map file but when i had this problem the .bak file had the same thing wrong as the .map file... so im sure the same will happen to you.. sorry.. your gonna have to restart on your map :(

It may be possible to recover your map since the file size is ok.

Paste the first let's say 20 lines of your .map file down here and we'll see what can be saved.

If these are indeed the first lines, I have a very sorry message for you:

None of your world brushes can be recovered from this .map file :cry:

To recover what's left, add the following lines at the top of your .map file:

{
"classname" "worldspawn"
// brush 0
{
( 2088 3240 0 ) ( 2024 3240 0 ) ( 2024 3176 0 ) common/foliageclip 0 0 0.00 0.500000 0.500000 537919488 33556640 0
( 2024 3176 84 ) ( 2024 3240 84 ) ( 2088 3240 84 ) common/foliageclip 0 0 0.00 0.500000 0.500000 537919488 33556640 0
( 2024 3180 84 ) ( 2088 3180 84 ) ( 2088 3180 -44 ) common/foliageclip 0 8 0.00 0.500000 0.500000 537919488 33556640 0
( 2084 3176 84 ) ( 2084 3240 84 ) ( 2084 3240 -44 ) common/foliageclip 0 8 0.00 0.500000 0.500000 537919488 33556640 0
( 2088 3236 84 ) ( 2024 3236 84 ) ( 2024 3236 -44 ) common/foliageclip 0 8 0.00 0.500000 0.500000 537919488 33556640 0
( 2028 3240 84 ) ( 2028 3176 84 ) ( 2028 3176 -44 ) common/foliageclip 0 8 0.00 0.500000 0.500000 537919488 33556640 0
}
}

That's one dummy brush I copied from my map.
