New tutorial!

Post by jv_map »

MPowell1944 has sent us an excellent tutorial lately on how to use triggers to modify the fog in your maps. This is for single player maps.

Curious? Read it here.

Hey hey hey!

Cool! Really easy to do, and I did not think of it! :evil: Well I dont do SP so I cant use it, but it gives me other cool ideas like:
- Pulsating fog.
- The level gets more / less fog as time goes by.
- As the sun sets / rises the fog gets / looses a red tint.
- Smoke bomb ojective / fan objective that decreases / increases visibility distance.

Actually this can be used for MP as well. But I believe it affects everyone versus the player touching the trigger. Hence, you will be inside and all of a sudden the fog will reappear.

Eh, I was a bit unclear ( That has never ocurred before! :wink: )...
I ment that the fact that you can actually script changes in the fog in real-time ( that affects all palyers in MP ). This did not really dawn on me until U posted your tutorial. :idea:

So thanx again for inspiring me!

nice making a tutorial,
though it has been sitting there in Omaha m3l1a.scr clear as day for sometime LOL

eg:

//*** pulling the fog back
main_boat_ride_fog:

println "FARPLANE: the g_ddayfog value: " (getcvar(g_ddayfog))

if (getcvar(g_ddayfog) == "2") //*** low setting
{
local.farplane_start = 2000
local.farplane_done = 2500
}
else if (getcvar(g_ddayfog) == "1") //*** medium setting
{
local.farplane_start = 3500
local.farplane_done = 5000
}
else //*** high setting
{
local.farplane_start = 3500
local.farplane_done = 8300
}

println "FARPLANE: starting fog: " local.farplane_start
println "FARPLANE: rolling back fog to: " local.farplane_done

for (local.i = local.farplane_start ; local.i <= local.farplane_done ; local.i += 50)
{
$world farplane local.i
wait .1
}

end

before you ask if you do. yes I have posted about it a few times but I don't have your scripting skills Powel, far from it... if only I had.
So respect for your ability dude.

I did take a look at the Omaha script, plus one of the scripts in the /global folder. Kind of a splice deal going on.

Thanks for the compliments.
