Looks like your ladder is facing 270, but I'm not sure. You don't really climb the ladder, you climb a func_ladder brush that does not touch the fake ladder (one unit away is enough). In my picture, the plate should be thicker to make getting down the ladder easier.

nice pic, just can't see on which side you want this ladder to be climbed.

but let's say you come to it like in 3d view, you'd need 90?. always the angle the player in front of the ladder is facing standing in the entity window at U|D in the middle of all those angles.
Can't see the func_ladder brush with ladder texture, though. This is what the player would be climbing! Without it, you could set angles as much as you want. Your visible ladder is just 'for fun': To be able to climb, you MUST add a func_ladder

aha!

ok so when you're looking into your map. High light you func_ladder brush.

If its on the left side its 360, if its on the bottom its 90, if its on the right its 180 and if its on top, its 270

I understand now!

 NO!

okay. just look at the top view of your map.
put your ladder somewhere.
put (temporarily, just for explaining purpose) your info_playerstart next to the ladder on the side, where the ladder should be climbable.

now, 1st approach:
if the ladder is in top view over the playerstart, the func_ladder get's angle 90
if the ladder is in top view on the right of the playerstart, the func_ladder get's angle 0
if the ladder is in top view under the playerstart, the func_ladder get's angle 270
if the ladder is in top view on the left of the playerstart, the func_ladder get's angle 180

2nd approach:
ladder and playerstart as above,
open entity window of the func_ladder brush.
look at the 'angle selection buttons':

135---90---45
180--U|D-360
225--270--315

the player is standing in the middle, at U|D
in which direction would he have to look to see the ladder?
player is looking up -> angle 90
player is looking right -> angle 360, or 0 which is the same
player is looking down -> angle 270
player is looking left -> angle 180

...other angles accordingly...

You confused me more

So, if the player is looking up it's 90, or is coming from the bottom part of the map towards to top, it's 90.

If he's coming from the right to the ladder its 360/0

The left, 180 and from top 90

Right?

this is what i do if i am lost in the ladder direction.......considering you are trying to set the angle of the ladder to which the player will approach it

put a player start in front of the ladder
now you will see an arrow coming from the player start, default is 360 degrees i believe, if the arrow does not face your ladder you can hit "n" while the playerstart is selected and on the bottom left try selecting different angles till the one fits the approach sight of the player, use this angle for your ladder angle and delete the player start

hope that helps..................like your explanation wacko

And when you've made the ladder and figured out the angle thing.... "Top it of" with this. :D

Or you could just raise your first func_ladder about 5 units higher...
