as said in the news forum, the map with the missing texture (i.e. the map without the texture missing... err the texture is now in the pk3) can be downloaded here

I guess what i'm seeing is that there is a new version with some of the missing textures filled in? I'll check that out and see if it solves my issues. Basically, I don't really know how you gave this map such a good score with such obvious missing textures and what in my opinion is terrible lighting.

There are large portions of building interiors where you can see nothing. Just bump along walls hoping to find some light. Don't get me wrong, the map looks good in general and I applaud any effort to keep mohaa interesting, but this map looks like it should be an alpha release. I planned to put it on our server for a day to try it out, but when I joined in I found it so brutally unplayable, I couldn't even leave it in for a day. I hope future reviews are not quite so misleading. There are lots of better maps out there than this one. You did mention the dark areas, etc... but I guess I think these are bigger problems than you do... an probably why you don't find this map in server rotations.

WOW...im usually to harsh on reviews...that?s what I have been told. One issue alone cant give a map a "bad" rating. Lighting is simply a tenth of the weight of the overall score. The dark areas and the one missing texture was an issue but I was also unaware that the reviewed version was an old version that was submitted.

"terrible lighting...alpha release...brutally unplayable" Can I ask what maps you see as being the opposite of these features you think exist in Dorf? I just seem to think those remarks don?t accurately sum up this map, imho, and trust me as many maps as I have looked at there are several out there in just that shape.....just cant seem to compare those to this map

Hmm. My post may have come across a bit harsh.

I did mention that the layout of the map seems cool. I thought the map was nice looking in general, and had good gameplay potential if not for the lighting. I think I was basically disappointed that with a few minor fixes it has real potential... but without them I wouldn't personally didn't want to put it on a server... too many people would whine... cause that's just what they do. The thing about the lightning in Dorf is that it is SO dark I couldn't even find my way around certain portions of the buiding interiors. I personally didn't care for it. Just my opinion. My alpha release comment was based on the fact that it shouldn't be hard to spot missing textures as big as the ones missing in this map, but I could be wrong as I personally coulndn't map my office cubicle. As for better user made maps IMHO... abbey assault, vervins, aarschot dam, canal, crossfire courtyard, tirtagaine-kechtatIII, carentan, etc, etc. I think there are quite a few good ones out there and you probably know of more than I do. I applaude your efforts in providing us with reviews and the efforts of map authors in providing us with new environments to play in. I only hoped to share my opinion. To get a more general opinion, I will host the map on our server, [PIE]Public (64.235.226.198), this sunday (may 25) and see if others like it. I've been wrong before

took a look again, and yes there are some rather dark places, even in the version i have now, which is not the one anymore which was reviewed.
reason is that i always have the gamma lever rather at the right side and had it there even while mapping and playtesting. no excuse, i know, and it won't happen again.

also, running around in a selfmade map is obviously easier than d/l ing one and then have to find your way in unknown territory...

if anyone is interested, here it is again with 2 additional light sources + ambientlight 3 3 3 which imho is enough. Also i put TDM spawnpoints in it, but i'm not sure whether i did it the way i should. at each DM spawnpoint an additional axis and an allies spawnpoint. separating them makes no sense in this map, so i did it this way. I see not much sense in this because of the map's layout, but Silent Hawk asked me to add them and so i did. If s/o knows a better way to set them, please tell me!

but i must confess, it depends on the kind of critisism:
if someone finds errors or pieces that are also in my eyes not as good as i could , i will ofcourse correct them,
but if someone tells me for example that there are too many places for snipers, well, i will let him d/l another map of someone else. Some people wanted to play it as in TDM which wasn't possible in version 1.1. I even tried to make it one, but with not much success. Now, I tell them, that this is a DM map and nothing else, a map for lets say up to 5 players and not more. Take it or leave it... Don't get me wrong, i like it very much, when ppl d/l and play my map(s), but i understand now, that i cannot make it perfect for everybody.

Of course. Weapon balance critisism is good for future projects (that is, you can take it on board and make your next map suit a different style of play) but most mappers will know that changing large portions of structures can be a real pain once a map is almost complete.

Ok now i know. I did send you an email that we had problems using it as a tdm map. (spawnpoints problems). I like the map and wil keep it for special evenings on our server we sometimes have
