Fake ladder

Post by tltrude »

Well, it would be kind of hard to use a prefab because every ladder is different in some way. They are not to hard to make, although most beginners make them too big. The rungs should be 2 units by 2 units (hit key 1 and zoom in) and 32 units (or more) long. The rails should be 2 X 4 and as long as you need them to be. You will probably have to rotate the texture on the rails by 90 degrees (key S).

You can also make the rungs round using curve cylinders, if you like. The rails can be curve cylinders too, but you would have to cap them at the top, or bend them to hide the open end. In any case, the rails should stick above the top floor by at least 8 units. Rungs should be about 16 units apart, but a little more is ok, if it is a tall ladder.

A lot of players will judge your map by how well you make ladders, so try to do your best.

Hope that helps!

Judge for yourself. Download this tutorial map. The map file and a playable pk3 are included in the zip. So, you are welcome to use anything from it you wish.

trigger

It is a trigger called "trigger_push" and it targets a script_origin at the pipe. If you open my map with your editor, you'll see it.

The boat DOES do something, silly! Stand on it, and press "Use" while looking at the oars. Then you'll see :D
Also, I think the locked door is just to show how to make locked doors, since it is a tutorial map and all...

Anyway, that map is really cool. Never thought I'd see some of that stuff in MOH. Great job.

The locked door is to show how that is done, but it can also be shot or blown open.
