"STREETS OF STALINGRAD -1- TOW" v1.0 RELEASED

Post by Slyk »

Ok, after lots of beta testing and reworking and more, here it is for those of you who like TOW maps. NOTE** This is a SPEARHEAD MAP **

DOWNLOAD LINK: http://www.paonline.com/marconia/sos1v1.zip

I know TOW maps don't get much attention, but hopefully those of you who like them will enjoy this one...not many choices out there, so I guess that works to my advantage! I have two more in the works and hope to beta them soon...if interested, drop me a note.

A few updated screenshots:

nice, but the last screen shot, the wood should look more broken, not one straight diagonal line.

Tell me where you found the z-fighting.......no idea where it would be, but if you saw it, it's there. Screenshot or good location, please!

I was looking forward to this based on the earlier screenshots. Also, Tractor Works is a really good map.

My only suggestions for this one would be to add some ambiant sounds. And perhaps give the Russian and German flags a steel support skelton and attach them to the roofs they are above, just so they aren't floating there.

There was and I mean 'was' and ambient sound in there...a background battle sound which I may have missed adding to the pk3........ugh. Gonna check it. Tried getting radio music to play with a custom sound file but no luck.

Ok, Ok, I'm an idiot.... put the /music folder in the pk3 and no $*(@# .mus file. SOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooo I just did that and reloaded the .zip to my web host. Sorry about that. If you downloaded before May 23, get it again. Thanks!

Hehe, I really love this map, but it's so big, can u make a smaller version of it, like the author of Vemork factory did?

Have some ideas about a smaller TDM version, actually. ALSO, working on making my 'Tractor Works' map smaller for TDM too...that will be a 'lite' version to get all the buildings much closer together. Generally, when I build a map, my plan is to be able to 'run' from one end of the map to the other in 45 seconds or less. And for TOW maps, I always feel there needs to be some 'room'.

Originally I planned this to be just one really wrecked street with charred buildings on both sides and one center square with all the TOW objectives. But, as I got to building it, it sort of 'fattened up' on me. SO, Sos2 will be more skinny, linear like and will actually come out AFTER SoS3-Volga, which is my latest struggle (75% complete) and takes place in the souther docks/warehouse area of the city.

Slyk, tried the map and it looks great.

Just some feedback for you from my perspective.

I am the admin for www.after-hourz.com and we included Tractorworks in our 2nd map pack. I must say that I loved the map, but it didnt play well on our 20 slot Spearhead server, I believe it was just too big and we suffered major performance issues with it so we took it off the rotation. Whenever I played it with just a few people it outstanding, one of my favorite all time map layouts. After reading some of these posts, I would very interested in a smaller TDM version of it.

As far as SOS is concerned, this map has some serious potential. Drecks dropped a line in our forums for us to come check it out here...so I did. Our server plays TDM only so you can obviously see my interest with these 2 maps. I dont mind the large scale maps, but if you were thinking of a smaller TDM version for each, you will definately make my decisions easier for picking maps for my 4th pack. Come visit our site, take a look.

If you can, keep us posted on your plans for these 2 maps.

Most of all, keep up the good work.

Thanks for the comments, it really helps. I'm actually pondering some major changes to Tractor Works as a TOW and TDM....TOW would remain the same size with some upgrades in brush work and spawns. The TDM will absolutely be smaller and compact.

SoS has some smaller potential. I need to work the VIS groups better in both. I hate to think of taking out detail to pick up FPS, but it may be necessary. We'll see. Thanks again, I'll check out your site.

Hey there Slyk!

Great map by the way! It's being installed this week on the brazilian server i admin for, so i'll be keen to see how it plays on our 20-man server, especially as many players have lower end graphics cards!

The only thing i noticed when testing it was that (and i think this is the intention) the flags over the target buildings don't change to denote who controls them. They change once, but after that recapturing it didn't seem to change it back? May have been my mistake, but i'll keep an eye out for that! It's a great concept anyway! Makes finding the locatons that much easier!

As far as comments about smaller maps are concerned, is there any chance of making a smaller version of a tow map as well? Most maps are enormous, and considering many players on our server don't have great systems, it is a pain trying to find great tow maps for them! Anyway, just voicing an opinion, not really a request so much as it's probably quite a lot of work!

Cheers for the great map! I'll let you know how it plays!

Thanks for the reply! Any good input is appreciated. There is some screwy bug with the flags not changing all the time, think it is fixed. Also a respawn bug that I seem to have EVERY time I make a TOW! I just posted another TOW BETA here the other day....

/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3659

IT IS BIG TOO.... But I have had a couple guys interested in a smaller version of this SoS1 map. I've also been toying with making my Tractor Works TOW smaller for TDM and maybe a revamped TOW. Send me your IP and maybe I can get in for some play time.

Thanks again!
