outdoors mapping

Post by tarik2 »

I created a map with a section of it outdoors. When i get to this point after compiling, there are thin black lines around the top of my treerow (bocage_treerow1rev) How the heck do I get rid of these??

Also, i tried making a screenshot of it to show you (tga file i think) and don't know how to open the file to look at it.

HELLLPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is because with alpha textures, you can see whats on the oppposite side of a brush from the front. So you can see whats on the top of the hedge brush from ground level. I had the same problem too. To fix it, hold ctrl+shift and click on the top face of the brush. then press 's', and type in the dir box 'common/nodraw' or 'common/caulk'. . Put nodraw or caulk on the back of the brushes too, otherwise it looks like you've got the texture on there twice. when you make a map, ALWAYS use caulk. then just texture the faces you can see. this saves compile time or FPS, something like that.
the screenshots are created in mohaa/main/screenshots. if you cant open them, try getting Paint Shop Pro, that can open .tga's. i think you can get it off http://www.jasc.com

If you're still having problems make your tree line slightly smaller than the actual pixel size. So if your tree line now is 128 units high make it about 112 and the sparkles will disappear. These are probably caused by texture tiling over the brush plane.

Ya, this is a common fault with most of the tree lines.. I tend to make my brush.. fit the tree texture to it and then drag the top down a wee bit...... sorted

Thanks all. Don't know which worked (nodraw or reducing size) but I did both and worked great.

Thanks again!!
