Complete newbie question

Post by Ramah Palmer »

Ok, sorry about this. Just followed your first few tutorials and am now the proud owner of a textured box I can walk around. I'm trying to add a few lights etc. and now find that I just CANNOT figure out how to change the orientation of an entity. The only lamp I can find in the drop-down list is a swinging lantern, but it only faces one way. So could someone tell me what the key is for turning it to face in another direction? :x
Also, where are all the other light entities? Surely there is more than a swinging lantern?
Thanks in advance. :D

Hi,

Firstly welcome to .map :)

Ok, the other lamps are found like this:

1. Right-click once in the 2D window
2. Select 'Static'
3. Then 'Lamp'
4. Hurray, loads of lights :D

There are a number of ways of changing the direction an entity faces:

The first way:

1. Select the light/lamp (Shift+left-click once on the lamp)
2. Press 'n' to open the entity window
3. At the bottom left of the entity window there are some numbers (e.g. 90, 180, 270, 360, etc. etc.) Just click on one and you should see your lamp/light change direction. You can keep clicking on the numbers until you are happy with the direction it faces. (You can also put in values for the angle manually: Type 'angle' in the "Key" box, then type the angle you want in the "Value" box and press enter)
4. Then press 'n' to close the entity window

The other way:

1. Select the light/lamp (Shift+left-click once on the lamp)
2. Then click 'Selection' (it's at the top near 'File' etc.)
3. Near the bottom of the menu is 'Rotate'
4. Use that to change your lamp's direction (Use Rotate Z if you're in XY view)

:D

Hope that works for you :D If not.....

Thanks a bunch. That was damn fast too!
I'll try that out later and everyone should look forward to playing the best map they've ever played soon! :D
Hehe, well, maybe not but who knows? So thanks again and it's a pleasure to be here on .map.

Just for future reference, there is another option for changing the angles. Instead of "angle" type "angles". The value is different too--it's three numbers. Here is an example:

Key: angles
Value: 0 90 0

The number are degrees of pitch, yaw, and roll. The numbers can also be negitive.

Value: 0 -90 0
