Human-like behaviour & animations

Post by Rookie One.pl »

Hi,

Some suggestions for bot behaviour.

1. Try to make the bots behave in a more human-like way. For example, they should sometimes stop, camp a while, and then go ahead to their next waypoint. Or, when they camp, they should rather crouch than stand (to hide from their enemies), and sometimes look around to see if there are any enemies in the area. They also should sometimes change their route. I mean, at present one random route is chosen when a bot spawns and then the bot follows it no matter what happens around. Humans behave in other way - if they see there are too many enemies or their route is blocked and guarded by someone else, they try pass him by another way, or just throw grenades. The bots don't do it.
2. Try to make the bots have different skills from each other. I mean, one bot may have better aim, other spots an enemy faster, etc. Their camping and fighting behaviour should also depend on their skills (look at the people - experienced players for example move when they shoot and use leaning, newbies don't).
3. The animations. Jv_bots use AI animations, multiplayer animations are different. The most important thing is the leaning. Try to replace turning round a corner with leaning. The standing, walking and running animations are also different.

Phew! I think that's all 8). Thank you for patience  :D

Yeah these are things I've been thinking of myself as well. Good points I think, but right now the bot project is on hold :(.

I also think leaning would rock, but too bad, there's no animation for that :?. I think the leaning move is directly managed from game code altering bone orientation, but I don't think that's applicable to bots :?. Also the looking up and down players do seems to work the same way :?.
