is this ok?

Post by Hashmark13 »

is having a peice of lod terrain take up about 95% of the grid space gonna give my comp a heart attack??? :? its going to have fog.. farplane of about 1500 (maybe lower if nessicary.. untill i use vis_leaf group thinger in final) will the fog help the fps or will this size of map just make the fog look like a joke when you cant see 3 feet in front of you and your fps is 1.5 :? hehehe no buildings... well a few trenches, an out house, and alot of trees (and a few explosions as well) not exactly an ideal map but im sick of run & gun where you use a shotty and bitch blast eachother like in snowy park... am i the only one that likes snowy park because i dont have to run around constantly???... anyways i hope this map isnt tooo big :x

MOH Terrain Editing Manual.doc wrote:7. The terrain system also has a max triangle count. If the map has no vis data this defaults to 32768; with vis it defaults to 8192. You can change this with ter_maxtris and a ter_restart (see Console Commands below.)
Note that invisible triangles don't count.

:? so what does that mean?? does that maximize the max triangles the game is currently using for you (because you are near them and it would be odd if they didnt show up...) or does it mean that its the max for the entire map if :? ugh...

here is the size of lod terrain... its going to be covered in trees and trenches except a big chunk going from left to right in the middle..

You may want to try to compile and run it at this stage, since I'm afraid the game or the compiler will complain.

Very big maps run very slow. Maps with a lot of trees run very slow. I had one half that size and it ran at 4 FPS--when I first started mapping. I don't see a skybox in your screenshot.

I am not sure about your main question but yeah I think maybe you are the only person who likes snowy park, I hate it, I also hate the Ardennes map on spearhead, not sure why but every machine I played these maps on jerks around and is laggy, fine with all the other maps, just that combination of snow and trees kills the cpu I guess.
Philip II of Macedon sent a message to Sparta:
"If I win this war, you will be slaves forever."
The Spartan ephors sent back a one word reply: "If".

Snowy Park is awesome! Just a lil laggy, so what then. Just look down the whole map and your FPS will increase by 20

Ok... i will just make half that size :( i wanted a map where you had to walk for atleast 2 minutes acrossed a battle field (with artillery shells and trenches and stuff) then you had to worry about being shot and i know there isnt a skybox... havent put one in yet

..that's what I love about the Delta Force(I & II) series. There you could walk and walk till you got bored. Wreck a cactus or two and shoot down some birds... ahhh memories........

as for 'snowy park', (personal taste of course) I don't like getting shot in the head the whole time just because I like some more action and don't like to sit still (for too long) behind a tree or rock and watch the snowflakes fall down. Yeah I know, then I shouldn't be playing Mohaa. But I do like objective style maps where you know; the enemy is over there somewhere, and we (the team) have to go there and take them out or complete the objective. I just hate that 'sitting duck'-feel when I took a hit and don't have a clue on where the hell it came from. For some reason, in maps like snowy park, I always get the feeling I'm the only one who is actually stupid enough to move around.. :P

yeah i was palying detla force black hawk down demo... and i ran for 5 mins or more... never saw anything.. finally seen a helecopter land.. hopped on and it took me straight to the city which i was running away from and not knowing it... heheh there was like 50 snipers shooting at me :( too bad i unistalled the demo... only because they released a horribly wrong demo... you had to download something called a "Master Addon" ... wtf? it was half assed like a mutha facko... (can i say that?) and the map editor was half assed too.. it was just a bunch of buildings already made... you couldnt just make your own building... with your own brushes... you had to use premade buildings :?

anyways.. my map is fine now... its 1/3 the size it was in the pic above and im going to set up some vis leaf thingers (with some help but thats only in final...) and gonna have some fog :D
