Post by Silent_Death »

"add your model. Position it so that the tail of the arrow is as close as possible to 0,0 in the XY Top view."

What does that mean? Please tell me in plain english!

If you zoom in for the 2d window, you will see numbers at the top and left side of the grid.

He also tells me when I'm done to delete the model. Does he mean I should delete the model and leave the metal clip brushes there?

And another thing:

"Save the map with the same name as the model and in the same folder as the model"

:?

either your making stuff up or im blind... you can name your map what ever you want... put it in the dm directory.. (or obj if its an obj model map test.. :?) and do not delete the model.. your else you will have an invisible object in your map!! you will just shoot and see sparks (or if its a wooden model you will see wood) from mid air... :?

Sorry Hashmark, you're not yet understanding the model maps

These model maps are sets of brush q3map automatically adds to your map if it has static models, provided this static model has a corresponding .map file. For example, static/furniture/parkbench.tik would need static/furniture/parkbence.map.

It's best to delete the model from the model map, but if you don't do it I think q3map will do it for you.

Yes, but not in your actual map, in the model map instead (separate .map file).

I didn't like this tutorial much either. I thought if I got it wrong I would mess up MOHRadiant!

If I add something I can walk through into my map, I just add the appropriate clip. If I put the same object into my map again, I just clone the clips I made for it and position them on the new item.

This makes a little more work for me, but I don't mind if it keeps everything working ok

A model map is more convenient if you're working with models rotated over different axes. Trust me ;).
