Stair/Ladders and hints?

Post by Daniel Radcliffe »

Hi guys,

Would it be possible for someone to tell me how to create stairs as i cant find a tutorial on it, ive found ladders, but no stairs.

Could you also plz tell me when creating underground tunnels how you stop the ground from being solid where the tunnel entrances/exits are.

And is there any othr little hints and tips you can give.

Many thx for your help.

Stairs are just a collection of brushes close to each other in increasing height ( of maximum height 16 from each other )... no need for any other "magical" stuff ( such as func_ladder and ladder brushes ).

Don't know about hollowing out LOD-terrain... sorry...

Hi,

Ok,

Stairs: You make stairs step by step using the caulk texture. They can be no higher than 16 units or your player will have to jump up the stairs! You just need to work out how far across and up your stairs need to go so you can work out how big each step brush should be. Then just keep cloning the suckers with 'space bar'.

Spiral Stairs: Use this fantastic link to make spiral staircases http://www.samurajdata.se/~ra/stair.php

As for the tunnels, I haven't learnt how to do them either. I guess you could make a large brush and CSG Subtract a tunnel into it!

Explore your menu buttons. One of them is "Rotate". Another is "cut", so you can bevel the top edges.
