Compiling is taking a way way longer time than usual.

Post by Shortricci »

I am making a map at the moment, and have been compiling everyday when i make a difference to my map.

I have tried alot of things to try and speed it up but it seems to be taking a lot, lot more time than usual and i have no idea what the problem seems to be.

Hope fully you could help by having a look at the map from the link i have enclosed, and see what the problem seems to be.

Heres the link --== http://www.philip.coles5.btinternet.co.uk/tanksnew.zip

Please could you email me if you find the problem i would be very grateful if you would.

Thank you for your time.

- Ricci

Brushes

Post by tltrude »

Well, you have overlapping duplicate brushes for the ground (three of them). And some of them stick out into the void. The only textures that should touch the void are sky and caulk. If other textures are touching it, the compiler assumes the void is part of the map--I think. Also, the more models you add the slower the compile will get. You can speed it up by making things detail.

Your map looks nice.

Thanks m8,

Did you edit those brushes?

If so how long did it take to compile? (If you compiled it)

Cheers

PS : Any other things people notice could you please inform me if possible.

Thanks alot.

i dont know if it still exists or not, but when i mapped for half life (quake 1 engine) all outside faces were not drawn, period, so i dont think you have to caulk the outside of the level.

there are so many faces INSIDE the level you should caulk, that it wouldn't save much time or anything to not caulk the outside :?
