6th June 1944 - 59th Anniversary
Today marks the 59th Anniversary of the Normandy Landings. Take a minute to think about all those brave men who gave their lives for us on that day and during the entire war. If you know any Vets, take a few minutes to thank them personally, and never, never forget............

- We should never forget, I was amazed that my own history teacher ( she is a good teacher ) did not know that today was the D-Day anniversary. What shocked me most was that after I had told her she brushed it off with a - pffft - and said have a nice weekend. I have no respect for her now.

I think she is one of those "Peta" people. She oppses every war. Even if it is to sace her mom. lol just kidding. But seriously this matter isnt to be taken all that lightly. Many people were tortured. It was horrible. But hey we fought for freedom. I say that dumb teach of your can say what she wants.
(looking at the teac).
I for one thought long and hard this D-Day especially. I watched Saving Pvt. Ryan and was struck particularly by the words "Earn it" at the end of the movie. A little while later I was watching TV and a preview of the news came up and the news stories of the night that it showed were so inane and so shallow that it made me sick in comparison to the hell that I had just witnessed. I know there are greater stories in the world than how to make sure you receive your promised rebates or which celebrity got a dog. I have a friend from Liberia that fears for his family on account of civil war, but that is besides the point when talking about D-Day. I feel as if nothing I could ever do could justify the lengths those men went to for us, that to 'earn it' is one of the toughest tasks I could ever be asked.
I have been reading an awful lot about WWII this summer (I'm on my 5th book since school ended) and I think the greatest tragedy that we as a generation could commit would be to forget the pain and suffering that the men who fought 60 years ago experienced. War is a terrible thing and I think that we need such movies as Saving Pvt. Ryan and Band of Brothers (as well as the book - excellent) so that we will not ever forget. I think this is very important so I'll say it again. We must never forget.
