.map's future

Post by m4rine »

I am wondering, what will happen to .map when pacific assault and call of duty both come out. Will everyone instantly switch to moh: pa or CoD, and will there still be some people out there who like mapping for allied assault instead of the newer and hopefully better moh: pa?

also, will there be a .map for Call of Duty? Because the MoH and CoD games are so simaler, It should be called Medal Of Honor: Call of Duty. CoD also runs on the Quake 3 engine, there4 fore we could be using moh radiant to mod for CoD.

answers! thats what i need. do i need to look into modding for CoD because it is soooo much like MOH? wherever .map goes, ill stick with it. .map is, in my opinion, the best mapping site around. Loads of helpful people like jv_map and loads others.n Unless i really hate the game that .map decides to move on to, i'll be there.

Ok I'll give you a small summary of my thoughts on the future :

This site will continue on - it will cover MoH: Breakthrough and unless i become really disolusioned by EA it will also cover MOH: Pacific Assault.....and even if I don't want to run it I would be happy for someone I trust to continue running it. So as long as there are people wanting to map for the MoH universe this site will remain.

As for Call of Duty - well I will probably open a new .map site for it to keep the games seperate....but I'm waiting for more information about what support they are going to give the community before making the decision......

I talked to one of the CoD developers and they are very much considering the modders. Everything I've asked for is being considered and should be possible with a mod. The downside of CoD is it appears to be RTCW type gameplay (very team/class based). I view that as a bad decision. Say what you want about FFA/TDM, but 1/2 the MOH servers run these game types. Losing those gamers is one hell of a chunk. I predict a short life for CoD and limited sales.

I think mohaa is the go, and ea will burn us with this new stuff just like spearhead, we have come a long way and can do nearly anything we want with mohaa, I havent made one spearhead level and dont intend to. Mohaa had huge sales and will have a good audience because of that. We just have to work hard on our levels, mods and models etc. These add on packs are just ea cashing in, really they should be free updates, if they were then mohaa would cement its possition in the gameing community instead of drying up like it has.
I think the bots and coop levels and sp levels like manstein keeps chugging out are gonna keep things going for us. Also balr14's pacific mod is way good cos they stuck with mohaa.

This is what I am thinking.

Balr - I think there is a place for team/class based play but I really hope they do include at the very least a DM type of gameplay....If they do support modders then even if they don't include a DM mode, surely it wouldn't be too difficult to make a DM Mod (TC)

i think they will both be amazing, but i can't decide which to mod for. ill prob do a bit of both. i definitely will not ever mod for UT2003 or half-life 2. they are too easy to mod for, because there level textures and stuff don't varie much. not as much as mohaa anyway, cos its got loads of authentic stuff and posters and loads of WW2 items and stuff. i mean, when have you seen posters in UT of H-L, and there are no items in the original half-life apart from loads of PC's and switches, where as MOHAA u can get items from bunkbeds to fags. i think it is cos hl is fictional and MOHAA is based on truth. also h-l has an easier editor.i have gone way off topic now. oops

back to topic: i think CoD will be better than pacific assault because of EA. Pacific Assault will be good, but its no question who would win. heres my evidence:

22 ex-mambers of 2015 vs EA games

MOH STYLE GAMES DEVELOPED IN 2002

22 ex members - Medal Of Honor Allied Assault
EA - Spearhead

which is better? i know Spearhead is only an expansion, but this means that they wouldn't have had to work on the engine or basic components of the game, and therefore should have had more time to develop more campaigns.

get my point?

EA care about MONEY. 2015 care about GAMERS.

thats my little rant for the day over!

no no no no! CoD is going to be run on a heavily modifed Wolfenstein engine... so basically if you're a Wolfenstein mapper you have a head start. And yes I will be moving to CoD since many maps and ideas have been taken in MOH:AA

and I believe that calling it Medal of Honor : Call of Duty is a diss to the team, after what EA did to MoH:AA (as in after it, SH) they should be ashamed!

Wolfenstien engine = modified Quake 3 engine

so CoD is on a modifed LOADS version of Quake 3 engine

Both games will ultimately be similar to map for. The mapping tools will just be a modified version of Radiant. I've spoken to the Activision rep for CoD and she has assured me that they will be behind the community 100%
