Curve face texture

Hi, beginning Mapper here.

I followed Dr. ABAP's tutorial on making curves and arches. Then I
extended the Arch so that it's a hallway to another room. Now I had
applied the Caulk texture to it, and then proceeded to apply a texture
with Ctrl-Shift-Left Click. But this didn't only change the "inside"
of the hallway, but also it's (later invisible) outside.

It worked fine for the two lower "normal" parts of the arch, just not
the curved parts.

I repeated the process a couple of times but couldn't get it to work.
What did I do wrong?

a curve is only one sided if you want the texture on the other side click on the curve menu and click invert . It is possible to make a custom shader useing cull none I hear to make the texture be on both sides . One other thing you can do is select the curve and on the curve menu click thicken a dialog box will open and ask you how many units thick you want it and if you want seams . If you choose seams you will get two curves separated by the amount you wanted to thicken by and seams along the edges between the curves the thickness part of the curve .

Ahh I see what you mean. But I didn't mean the actual inside/ouside
of the brush. I meant the inside/outside of the hallway. So I guess it's
the brushe's outside, but on the other side. Like when you
make a cube brush, you can select the 6 faces with Ctrl-Shift-Left click,
and texture them individually. Unfortunately this does not seem to
work with my curve? Once I apply the square cylinder patch to my
(6-sided) brush, press Ctrl-B and bend it, this feature seems to not
be available any more. I sometimes have to Ctrl-Shift-Left click 5
or 6 times until the brush is selected at all with this method.

The reason I ask is because I want to have a lot of arched hallways
like this, and only their inside will ever be visible to the player, so the
outsides should really be caulked texture.

You could bend some thin strips to line your hallway and give it the texture you need and then put the main archway behind it. (this of course isn't what you were exactly after, but it's close)

I don't get that, what are strips, are they brushes? If so then won't
they behave the same as the brushes I make the hallway with and thus
also be textured on both sides? Also wont adding extra brushes have
a furhter performance impact?

If it's not possible I can live with that, it's just that everybody says if
a brushe's face will not be visible in the game then the caulk texture
should be applied in order to improve performance...which makes sense...

Yep you got it, the strips are brushes and you would have texture on all faces, but it won't have a major effect on performance, depends how many you do.

I like to hear you want to make your map efficiently, but maybe some sacrifices can be made for a better looking map. Anyway, at the end of the day its entirely up to you :)

I'd still ask around though, it may be possible to texture one face for arches. Sorry couldn't be much help :(

I'm not sure I understand completely what it is that you are trying to make, but if it's a hallway with a arched ceiling you should not use a bent "Curve->Primitives->Square Cylinder" as I guess you do now. Use instead two "Curve->Primitives->Bevel" as they only have one side to texture.
