I'm exactly the same  . I haven't touched my map for a week now. I can see how it will be finished in my mind, and it's just a pain to actually make all those damn brushes! And then you have to furnish it all, agh!

I would love to; I love furnishing rooms ^_^ Actually, if it comes down to it, I'd be happy to do everything inside the houses; windows, doors, floors, walls, stairs...
My warning meant nothing. You're dancing in quicksand. Why don't you watch where you're wandering? Why don't you watch where you're stumbling? You're in knee-deep and going in, and you may never come back again.

Any time I've lost interest in a map, it's been for a good reason. The maps I haven't lost interest on tend to get a lot of praise. The maps I have lost interest with, I go back to at some point, and realize that they suck ass.

I'm not saying your map sucks ass, I'm just saying that if you're losing interest, maybe you're unsatisfied with it... just a thought.

u've hit the nail on the head 100%

they tend to be good map, from the outside, that's the bit i like making, the interior design however is the bit that causes me so much... what's the word... not hassle as such, more like boredom

i'll still hope to release 1 map before i'm 65 though
hope this helps, prob not cos it's all foreign 2 me :-/

"Plan your work and work your plan". I once read that line somewhere and I always -try- to live up to it. When things get really boring and you start to lose interest, that's also when the wrong decisions are being made. You start out with a nice idea and before you know it, it doesn't work out like you planned and because you've spent a couple days on it, you decide to go on with it and see where it ends.
There's nothing wrong with improvising but when a part of the map isn't turning out like you had in mind, remove it and start over. Yes that sux, but this way you can still try to work your plan again, without having to adjust things to the stuff you've already made. So I think it can even be a good thing to not touch the map for a week, do something else, download a couple of maps, make some sketches on paper and go at it again. Just don't rush it.
See the news-section where Surgeon has posted a link to a very interesting article by a talented mapper. That's what I like to do when I got stuck, look for articles on the subject and read what others think.

Making the brushes is the fun of it. I think setting up your own playing field is the best part of mapping for me.

I love everything about mapping. Setting up the layout, decorating, furnishing, texturing, all of it! The only thing I truly hate is scripting, because I'm not that good at it, and it's a pain-in-the-ass to get simple things - like loading screens - to work sometimes. I almost always capitalize a word I'm not supposed to, or mis-spell something... very frustrating. I hate text-based programming though.

Nuggets, as I already owe you a crate of Stella I would be happy to decorate some rooms for you. Peenemunde seems to be doing well so I guess another collaboration ( not in the French style of collaboration during the war ) would work out well too.

Let me know man, more than happy to help you out.
Philip II of Macedon sent a message to Sparta:
"If I win this war, you will be slaves forever."
The Spartan ephors sent back a one word reply: "If".

cheers Jack!!!

although i really need rooms decorated, this time i'll settle for the stella :P

nah only kidding  kronenburg please :D

nah only kidding again, sorry, it's my humor :P well at least i get it :?

anyway where was i, what was this post again... aha of course,

i e-mailed an earlier W.I.P map (work in production) of what i'm trying 2 achieve to Reish Vedaur, but no reply, hmmm... anyway, i'll send you a copy of the map, you'll see the big tall building on the right past the fountain, that's gonna be a hotel, well when i say a hotel, i mean like kind of ermmm... well a hotel i guess, but possibly aswell with offices, the building can change dimensions going more to the left (looking straight at it) and back more, but most of the rooms will need to be the same size, as i'm making the rooms random along with some of the other buildings, phew time for another paragraph...

if ya wanna just start making some furnished houses, and leave the hotel alone until it's got more idenyity then that'd be a good thing, i think... was this really worth another paragraph :?:

ahhh right then... oh bugger it, it's e-mailed and on the way to ya :D
hope this helps, prob not cos it's all foreign 2 me :-/

well, the thing is that there is only the square.. I can't get a feel for what you're wanting from what you gave me =\

ok, i get the idea, you want me to do all the work :P

this is a map i've not really been working on that long at all, and i'm hoping i'll have the motivation to keep it going and actually finish one, it's growing minute by minute and hour by hour, and then gets changed again the day after :P i've started adding more of the housing area around the exit of the square, so if you want 2 start adding the rooms to the back of the buildings in the square that'll be a start,

if ya like i'll send u an upto date version of the map, and decide if u wanna put any input into it, (hopefully you will) it's just really furnishings i get bored with so that's the general "big" want

hope to hear from ya soon,

and JACK, if ur still listening, this doesn't mean ur out of the picture,

hint's for everyone who wants to do multi-user-mapping :D make everything a script object when you send them the map, and give it a stupid targetname, that way when you send it, and receive it back, just press 'ctrl' + 'e' and remove all the previous map work :D

hope u like that tip, i just made it up... i wonder if that'll really work???
hope this helps, prob not cos it's all foreign 2 me :-/
