LOD Terrain

Post by [KreatoR] »

Whenever I make LOD terrain out of a brush smaller than 1024x512, it will automaticly make it 1024x512 and I do NOT want it to be that big. Is there a way I can stop this from happening or a way to change the size back?

Thnx

You can use the facet editor (SHIFT + F) to delete unneeded facets. Select the facets you want to delete and then check the 'delete' flag.

Yup it did. You just gotta select 'color surface flags' in the LOD terrain menu to see any difference in MOHRadiant.

now in the 3d view theres a hazy grey area where a deleted. But it still doesnt show I deleted anything in the 2D view. How can I fix that? cause it will get really annoying when im vertex editing and stuff...

So, that hazy grey area will NOT show when I compile or what?

Thnx JV for all your help!

The hazy grey area will not show in game - I don't think there is a way to make MoH Rad show you this area in the 2D view

Is there any other way of making terrain? In halflife mapping, people just made the triangles manually..... kind of a pain, but looks better and less errors.

Is there any other way that you can make terrain? or is LOD your best bet?

Also, how often is LOD used? like in a rural (out in the wild) map... would the whole floor be mostly LOD? cause I remember in halflife mapping there was a limit or else r_speeds would get too high.

Thnx!

LOD terrain is way better for the frame rate and much easier to create then terrain from brushes. LOD terrain is used a lot in all original maps.

LOD terrain has the great advantage of lowering the level of detail at the advanced options and when the player is farther away. LOD terrain also allows efficient culling of invisible faces.

There is a limit to the amount of terrain you can use, which is currently 8192 facets, that is 32 complete LOD patches.
