[Solved] BOT staring contest

Post by Bjarne BZR »

Arent they cute?
Staring at each other like this ( except that they are 4 floors of concrete from actually seeing each other )

The bots sometimes stop and do this ( only this ). The soldiers on the bottom floor look up, and the soldiers on the top floor look down...

A possible cause for this is that its a map with -fast VIS compile: so they CAN actually see each other. If so the problem will go away in the -final compile....
Any other smart reason for this?

I'd consider using monster clip between the floors. Give it a quick try.
My warning meant nothing. You're dancing in quicksand. Why don't you watch where you're wandering? Why don't you watch where you're stumbling? You're in knee-deep and going in, and you may never come back again.

This is a very common problem and I thoroughly hate it. Singleplayer AI does it as well. I'm afraid there's no other solution than to modify the game code and remove their irritating turret behaviour altogether. But alas, when will we get the source....

Here's an old thread from before my bots beta release:

Although the solution found (eleminating all hearing and enemyshareranges) strongly reduced the problem, it still happens every now and then, especially on very vertical maps like yours.

When you make a bot map you really have to take this into account. They like the flat country.

The bots scripts don't let you customize it
