Gantries

Post by Ramah Palmer »

Hi. Could anyone tell me the best way to make gantries like the ones in the V2 map please?
If I make the steel mesh out of a brush and add the gantry texture (can't remember the exact name) then it looks ok but bullets will not pass through it.
But the ones on V2 are only a texture thick so I assume they are made from static meshes? If so, I tried one and it looked ok but it let bullets AND nades through from one direction but nothing at all the other way.
Can anyone help me? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

-make a brush
-apply the gantry texture to one face (the front or the back-doesn't matter)
-then texture the rest of the brush with common/nodraw
-that's all man

Ok, now I've had time to try your answer man and it ain't exactly what I was looking for. In the V2 map you can shoot, and be shot, THROUGH the gantry. Making a gantry as I described in my original post and doing it how you just described m8 doesn't seem to allow it. Only making it out of a mesh allows bullets to pass through, and then only from one direction.
So how do I allow bullets to pass through my gantry?

Apply the player clip texture. (in the "Common" menu).

Click textures--->Common--->player clip. I do it for the wood only. Or really really thing walls.

each texture has a shader file, some are told to do certain things in each,

the easiest way though, if you wake the gantry a script object, and then
key: targetname
value: gantry
then in the script put
$gantry notsolid

this can be done by pressing N and selecting not solid (a lot easier), but i'm a scripter :D

this will make it passable by anything now, so add the player clip so it will prevent walking through it as Yarik suggested
hope this helps, prob not cos it's all foreign 2 me :-/

I say you are... maby not lying to Ramah Palmer, but missleading him something grotesque...

It is a fence texture, and as such it lets bullets pass if they hit the holes in the texture... There is a prefab called "Metal staircase ( Like the ones in the V2 map )" in my download section. It uses fence textures. Steal it or just see how it works...
