Bending objects, texturing and multiple brushes....

I followed the tutorial and I have few problems:

In my texture list I cant seem to find caulk...help?

And how do I make a whole object bendable not just one surface ?

I am trying to make a road that slighty curves...is there a way to make the texture also bend ? Or will I have to make small brushes that utilize the texture and position them accordingly?

And my last final question...bet your all happy! Will graphics card performance suffer by a more-than-adequate amount of brushes in one map??

to find caulk just click textures-->Common. It has all the utility textures.

For the road to fit the curves all you should have to do is hit ctrl+f. It should make the texture fit the designated area. I am EXTREMELY new to mapping, but I do not see any reason why that shouldnt work
I dont have time to do this.

you can only bend meshes like cylinders patch meshes etc . to make a road use a simple patch mesh and then press B on the keyboard and follow the popup dialog box . To further tweak it and maybe bury the edges into the terain press the V key on the keyboard to edit vertices . the green dots are actual positions the pink dots are like magnets that bend the curve between green dots . To make the texture look better after your are done press natural on the bottom menu or use the S key on the keyboard to bring up the surface menu . Or use the set button the first box is how many times to tile the texture horizontaly or is it verticaly any way the other box is the the other one . Set 10 2 will tile an image 10 times one way and 2 times the other way .

curved road you will have to make out of a simple patch mesh. Make it as long as you need it and texture it before you bend it gives me the best result.

You can't bend a regular brush, just meshes. The square cylinder has four sides and can be used for arches and such. Unfortunately it is not possible to texture each face separately.

The performance of the graphics card will naturally suffer if you use a shit load of brushes that can be seen at the same time. If you however make a map that have separate areas they may each contain all the brushes they want. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

It's a great tutorial, but I ran into two problems when trying it out...

firstly, once the patch mesh is made, and the texture is on, I opened the surface inspector, and hit fit. While the SI was open, the texture looked right, and fit properly. Once I closed the SI, the entire patch mesh went black. Every time I opened the SI again, the texture re-appeared, but whether I hit apply, or not, it still turned black when the SI was closed.

Also, hitting ctrl + b didn't bring up the bend menu... so I opened it manually under Curve/Bend_mode, and it still didn't bring up the bend_mode box...

I can't figure out why... I used the texture you recommended, and also followed every step of the tutorial exactly. I closed Radiant, opened it again, tried this again, and had the same problems. Any idea why?

stay away from SI or, mostly every texture tool. the one you want is "set" that tells the patch mesh how many times the texture "repeats" on itself. take m3l3_set4 for example. its normal dimensions are 256U wide, 512U long. if your patch mesh is 256x1024, you want your set to be 1, 2, since the texture should be repeated once, or else your texture will look either severely squished, or severely stretched.

No, there's something really wierd going on... even if I try using the set feature instead of fit... the texture blacks out (well, it's not black, it's more of a really dark forest green - semantics).

I was able to bend the patch mesh though... I was just being stupid on that one... figured it out...

Now that's REALLY wierd... I just tried it again, because I was getting frustrated, and it worked. I didn't do anything differently... really wierd.
