Weather Question!

Post by m0g »

Ok, the other day my girlfriend asked me about certain things, when mapping for mohaa, and i didn't have the answer to her questions...
Hopefully someone here can give me an answer.

Q: Is it possible to have a map, that after a certain playtime changes weather, lets say that it starts raining.
Maybe even that fog and sky becomes darker...

Would be intersting to know if this would work!

thanks in advance

I think the rain and fog differences are possible, but I don't think changing the sky smoothily can be done.

thanks JV!
She's happy now... but another question (from her, omg)

Q: Now she wonders if its possible to somehow script the sun 'to go down'? Like script it so that the suncolor, sundirection and ambientlight changes...

(she's getting into mapping, i see... she's my texture slave, and PS whizkid)

No that is not possible with the Quake 3 engine. All lightmaps are precompiled and cannot be changed without recompiling. Newer engines (like Doom3) use dynamic lightmaps 8).

there are compromises that you can make, but no real time shadows

animating different sky textures will make the sun go down, and adding a darkened texture to the sky with an increased transparency will make it go darker,

but that's all i'm giving away for now

changing weather can be done, but it'll involve creating a new global/weather.scr
hope this helps, prob not cos it's all foreign 2 me :-/

Im not sure about scripting for radient but ive script for some other progs, and is there a start time for each map, then if so then you have th e script like

if starttime == 50000 (or whaterver);

then
begin
change farplane=(100)

again I dont know how to script for radient, but if you understand what im trying to get at.....
