manual compiling error ( project_file.prt ??? )

Post by chris_in_cali »

I'm just learning how to compile maps. I drew up this batch file to do the work for me, but am getting an error. Could you help me out... I'm not sure where the trouble is.

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA\q3map.exe" -gamedir "C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA" "C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA\main\maps\room_01.map"
pause continue?
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA\q3map.exe" -vis -gamedir "C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA" "C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA\main\maps\room_01"
pause continue?
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA\mohlight.exe" -gamedir "C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA" "C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAAmain\maps\room_01"

Here's the error (in the second stage):

**** ERROR ****
LoadPortals: couldn't read C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAAmain\maps\room_01.prt

It finds the room_01.bsp for the second stage fine, but I don't even know what room_01.prt is (temporary file, maybe? If so, which directory would it be placed in while work is being done?)

Thanks for any help.

Your paths are wrong. C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA\q3map.exe is saying that the little dos program is in your game folder. It should be in the MOHTools folder with the other two compilers.

Why not just downlaod MBuilder? It will do the batch file for you! Here is a tutorial on how to set it up and it has a download link for it as well.

Yeah, but your new mappers tutorial links are messed up right now! "Tom hits Surgeon in the face with a plate of warm kippers".

Its an British expression - hard to describe its exact meaning. Its usually used as a term of mild annoyance...

Thanks guys. I just always like learning the manual way to do things like this; it always seems you have more control that way.

So, are you saying that q3map.exe and mohlight.exe should be in my MohTools folder, not in my main directory? Would this be causing the trouble even if I'm directing DOS towards the right place?
