MP Spotlight

Post by Krane »

Is it possible to add a "moving", simple spotlight ( no gunners, no alert mode, just the spotlight) to a MP map? The tutorials says is for SP but I'm "feeling" it's possible.

What you guys think?

I'm trying to adapt the tutorial to my map but it's not working...yet. I'm a d*** hard bone, so I'll try until I find out ( despite my scripting skills=0 hahaha).

But, meanwhile, if anybody gives me a tip, it will be nice.

This has been brought up in the past here at .map, you might want to try searching the forums.

Yes, I did a search and the site returned me w/ only 1 page w/ about 20 threads. I read one by one and this topic is without solution (maybe that's why I'm posting another thread....).

But I've learned some things:

1) The spotlight script doesn't work in MP (jv_map in viewtopic.php?t=1651&highlight=spotlight

2)There's dozens of other ppl that would love to know how to do it.

3) This topic is without solution.

tltrude (I heard he's the man for lights) show in this thread (
viewtopic.php?t=392&highlight=spotlight) how to make it spins like a lighthouse, but that's not what we want ( we want it to point to the ground, of course).

Well, I'll keep trying but w/ my script skills it will take a long time...

Thanks anyway.

He he....

I did it. The secret was the gunner. The script needs him for the spotlight to "live". I've made like the tut says, just replace the soldier's model for a fx/dummy and is working now. The new "gunner" is invisible and don't react, so it's like there's nobody behind the spotlight.

Hope it helps.

I'm still testing the thing but here's what I did:

Did you make the "spotlight-mg42guy" tutorial room? I loaded de room and shift-leftclick all the splinepaths, the script-origins, the spot model, the trigger and the guy (no need to copy the gun or the box).

I opened my mp map and it asked to copy the selection. I said yes.

Then I changed the model of the soldier to fx/dummy.tik and everything was working...I mean, almost everything. I'm figuring out why my spotlight is not "lightning" the floor!!!! And it's lightning in the tut room...

Looks like the spotlight needs the guy. You shoot the guy, the spotlight stops. But I didn't want the guy or the gun. So I changed the guys model (and all his reactions and animations were toggled too). If the spotlight needs the guy, maybe cause it needs certain "values" the guy have (like distance, etc...). So, putting another script model to guide the spotlight should work too. As long as it have the "values" the guy used to have.

Again, I'm a noob in scripting and mapping. Sorry for this terms I'm using, it's just to explain what I did. there's probably a "cleaner" way to do this, but that was the best I could do. And is satisfatory for my map.

I'm still working on the floor...

If there's anything I can do, just say it.

I'm building a MOHAA web site where I'm gonna put my map(s) but is still under construction. If you want to check my map to got some things I did, email me and I'll email you the map file. :D

My profile was not showing the email address, sorry I've already fixed it.

I'll have to make a zip or pk3 file cause I'm using custom shaders, scripts, etc...( no custom texture yet). I'll include a Read Me file to explain everything.

If any1 wants too, i'll send. Just email me.
