What should the set be?

ok, picture a patch mesh 1024 long. now lets say you bend it correctly so it is a 90 degree angle. when i do that to my mesh, the dimensions shown are 768x768. so my question is, should my "set" be 1,2 (because 1024/2 is 512.) or should it be 1,1.5 :?:

I think you should set it by the original length of the patch
