i cant open any .scr files in winzip or pakscape either, and i get Screensaver as the file type aswell. just extract the file to main/moh maps or somethin like that, so it doesnt over-right them ingame. then you can edit, then zip it back up.

There's a sea of difference between mp and sp maps on the part of sounds. If you're working on a mp map, you're the lucky one. It's just a matter of placing your map in a dm or obj folder within the maps folder and all basic sounds will work. If you're one of the view guys who're working on a sp map, you're still lucky but less. See the tutorial Surgeon told you to read for more details.

THX for your help guys...I ll start working on it now.....one last thing..see those 2 scr files for 2 different maps

exec global/ai.scr
exec global/loadout.scr maps/test_x.scr
main:
level waittill prespawn
exec global/ambient.scr test_x
level waittill spawn
$player item weapons/colt45.tik
fadein 2 0 0 0 1
wait 2
level.script = "maps/test_x.scr"

exec global/ai.scr
exec global/loadout.scr maps/tutor.scr
main:
level waittill prespawn
exec global/ambient.scr tutor
level waittill spawn
$player item weapons/colt45.tik
fadein 2 0 0 0 1
wait 2
level.script = "maps/tutor.scr"

both .map files are in .../main/maps folder and only test_x works..Both maps are very simple..test_x a common room and tutor.map a room with a rotating door and a sky...I know the above scr file will not make door sound but at least where are the other sounds??walk and fire?..not even the gun in my hand!

If i delete all files except .scr and .map and recompile them out?

The sounds are working because of 'test' in the filename. For 'test' maps all sounds are loaded, not only those as stated in the ubersound file. So if you rename 'test_x.bsp' to 'x.bsp' it won't work anymore.

However, prefixing test to your map name is not a very good idea. It results in a longer loading time and memory abuse.

See the tutorial on how to get working sounds in an other way. It's a quite advanced tutorial though, so you may have problems understanding it. In that case, report back to me and I'll try to help you out. You may also want to use 'test' for a while and use the method as described in the tutorial later, when you know a bit more about MoHAA.

about the .scr viewing

Post by Mirek »

Just thought I'd pass this on.

It's my first attempt at C++ programming and it's basicaly a text editor but it can open and save .scr files. It will also open .mus and .tik files.
Saves a bit of time not having to change to .txt and back again just to make a tiny change.

Unfortunatelly I have been unable to change the association on my win2000 so use the editor to open the files.

It's very basic but it works - don't forget to press 'save' and save your work before u close the app as it doesn't ask.

No instalation necessary, just double click on the MScript.exe.

Give it a go and see if it helps any.
