Pk3 creation
Ok, I've already searched the forum once for this and thought I'd found an answer but it didn't help me.
I've got a problem where I create a .pk3 file exactly as it says in the tutorial but it never appears in the map list in game. I've scoured my filenames etc. for bad spellings or anything like that but it just DOESN'T want to work.
I found a similar problem from one guy who then attributed it to his winzip and said that Pakscape solved his problem but it doesn't work for me.
Anyone had this problem before?

Game type
Where the map shows up depends on the game folder you used. If it is a deathmatch type map, the bsp file (and script if you have one) should be in a maps/dm folder.
A pk3 is a compressed version of the "main" folder. So, all your files should be in folders that have the same names as the ones in main.
If you want to see how other people did it, pick a pk3 from main and copy it to the desktop. Then change the extention of it from .pk3 to .zip. In Winzip options, turn off "Auto Install Screensavers". Now you can unzip the pk3 to see all the folders inside it.
Hope that helps.

inside the .pk3 there must be a subfolder named 'maps' containing all your map files, .bsp, .scr etc.
have u compiled your map? it wont work if you just stick the .map file in a .pk3
have you a mac pc and are using more than one dot in the file name?
is your .pk3 placed in your MOHAA -> main folder?
If it still doesnt work, try creating a maps folder inside your MOHAA->main folder and move all the stuff in there.
If this still doesn't work send the compiled files to some one else and get them to do it for you, as it might be your computer messing up. If you want I'll do it, as I can create .pk3's on my pc's.
Is it a multilayer map? If it is, put a subfolder called dm,obj or whatever (depending on the game type) in your maps folder.
Hope this helps

Cheers guys. I've followed the tutorial to the letter but it just doesn't show up.
Since I posted this topic I've copied someone else's pak3, ripped it apart, taken out all the previous files and inserted my own then re-named the pk3.
This has ALMOST worked. Now when I try it (I'm working in Spearhead by the way - and it is an obj map) My map doesn't show up in the list in the main multiplayer room but it DOES show up in the map list in the correct obj section on the clipboard in the MAIN room.
So I think I am getting closer. But does anyone know why it would only show up here?
Thanks.

Mainta
Spearhead pk3's should probably be in the mainta folder. But, to play your map you have to run a server in multiplayer. Go to multiplayer room, and select the "start a server" bulletinboard. then select the objective match button and "select map" button. Your map should be on the list.

obj
Well it should show up if it is in maps/obj. So, the path is:
mypk3name.pk3/
--------------------maps/
---------------------------obj/
-------------------------------mymapname.bsp and mymapname.scr
mypk3name.pk3/

That' exactly what I've got m8.
My map is now called 'zclifftop' (I added the z whilst trying various different things to sort this out - I read that it helps to read it after the stock pk3's but it made no difference anyway). So it's...
zclifftop.pk3
.........maps/
.................obj/
......................zclifftop.bsp
......................zclifftop.scr
......................zclifftop.min
I've also got:
...........scripts/
....................zclifftop.shader
...........textures/
...............mohmenu/
....................objloading/
..........................zclifftop.tga
..............ui/
...................loading_zclifftop.urc
The shader and loading screen work by the way (when I've tried it from the main menu - grrrr) so I don't think they are the problem at all.
This is really starting to annoy me now.
I might have to take m4rine up on his kind offer.

test
Lets try a test.
1. Find or make copies of zclifftop.bsp and zclifftop.scr and place them on your desktop.
2. Go to your MOHAA folder and open the "main" folder.
3. Click on file and new and create a folder named "maps"--if there is not already one there.
4. Open the maps folder and create another folder named "obj"--if there is not already one there.
5. Open the obj folder and drag the two files on the desktop into it.
6. Close all the folders, and start your MOHAA game to see if it is on the list of objective games.
If it is there, it should also show up in Spearhead.

Ok, did that. It turned up fine in MOHAA but obviously wouldn't run coz I did it with the SDK. It DIDN'T show up in Spearhead but then that may be because I have now got rid of the 'obj_' prefix I had originally before trying to pk3 it.
But that IS how I've been testing it so far during creation - having my .bsp and my .scr file in:
mainta/maps/obj
and it works fine there (as long as it has the obj_ prefix).

Spearhead
Hmmm, I have two spearhead mods and both the pk3s start with "MP_" and the objective map names do all start with "obj_". So try naming your pk3 to "MP_clifftop.pk3" and the map to "obj_clifftop.bsp". Same with the script and other files with the map name. Place the finished pk3 in mainta.
I guess you could try it with only renaming the pk3 first.

Ok, I haven't been ignoring your advice m8, but I was just getting so frustrated I needed a couple of days off before I started altering all filenames and scrips AGAIN!
Anyhoos, have done as you have advised and it STILL doesn't work.
I think I'm gonna have to take m4rine up on his offer.
This computer just doesn't seem to want to pk3 that bad boy!
