distant disappearing

hi i had to reformat and reinstall and i did not have this before, but my buildings and objects are disappering at a short distance . i used to be able to render everything and i read it here once what to do can someone help me out ?

when i compiled a level i had the same prob all i got was the dreaded blackness

, or r u on about in radiant(i know what it does in that. or have i got it wrong all together...........????
