yes you do have to have a black part in a targa, saved in 32-bit format, is that all you have to do to make it transparent?

something about alpha channel?

You do need an alpha channel, if parts of it are not going to be see-through. Find a see-though shader for a window and copy it. Then change the image names to your new image and rename the shader.

so your saying to just make transparent areas black and save as 32bit targa, then copy a transparent shader and change it for use with the custom texture?

photoshop

Well, if you have photoshop, switch it from Layers to channels. Then find a tga image of a see through window and you will see the alpha channel. it is white where the frame is and black where you can see through.

ok, but I do have photoshop, so how do I make a transparent texture from scratch? I have copied the shader for it. IT is a standard window with a frame around it.

You'll have to send it to a friend that can make alpha channels. Or, ask someone here to do it for you. If you try to do it without an alpha channel, the glass will probably just be black in the game.

I guess you could try pasting your frame on an exsisting see-through window TGA image (and renaming it), but the glass panes have to stay the same because of the alpha channel mask.
