Ladders into crawl space

Post by 007craft »

ok i used the tutorial on this site to build the ladders in my level and it worked perfeclty... but now i want to make a ladder that leads into a crawl space. (like a vent shaft or something) But when i get to the top of the ladder i just hit the ceiling and wont enter the crawl space. Maybe i need to lowwer my ladder clip or something? please help

Well, if you don't want to make a little platform outside the vent, you will have to make the enterance of the vent 128 units high above the top of the ladder brush.

Script_object

You can make the top of the vent opening a non-solid script_object. But the players will be headless while standing at the top of the ladder.

Is there perhaps a way to force the player into a crouching position? A trigger and a script perhaps?

What u could do is making a "very steep staircase" with 16 units up and 1 unit to the front. If u want it to be invisible, u could make it with clip brushes in front of a steep ramp. Players could crouch on it, but won't have to enter it like normal ladders but rather "run" up which is a little surprising for players. :cry:

Maybe - but I haven't tried so and getting on the ladder from above might be a little strange then - u could even make a combination of a func_ladder running up until the ceiling height is 128 and do the remaining distance with those steps. This way, u would have to "use" the ladder at the bottom just like a normal ladder.

JUs make the area above the ladder high enough for the player to stand 128 units high, then when the player is in that position they would hav to crouch to cary on

you'd need something a bit more complex than that

local.player = parm.other
local.player physics_off
lcoal.player exec global/fullanim.scr anim/crouch.scr
local.player crawl_walk //$a named pathnode
local.player physics_on

/*as with all most of the posts on here, i haven't tested them so they may need some work :P */
hope this helps, prob not cos it's all foreign 2 me :-/
